T.S Eliot 1888-1965 est un poète, dramaturge et critique littéraire américain devenu britannique, prix Noble 1948. Il fait paraitre une sélection de poèmes et un essai qui constitue une étape importante de la reception et de la critique littéraire de Kipling : 
Choice of Kipling's Verse, made by T. S. Eliot, with an essay on Rudyard Kipling  Faber and Faber in UK, and by Charles Scribner's Sons in U.S.A.1941

L'essai reconnait à Kipling, entre fiction et poésie une place particulière et originale, qu'Eliot cherche à définir, à la fois dans sa manière d'écrire et dans sa biographie. 
Eliot disingue Verse et Poetry. Poetry renvoyant à la poésie " pure" et Verse à une projet différent dans lequel l'intention est primordiale et le vers le moyen d'y parvenir. Ce n'est pas une critique négative pour Eliot mais la reconnaissance d'une singularité : Il n' a pas échoué en choisissant le Verse, mais parce que cela lui a permis de faire ce que la Poetry ne pouvait pas faire. 

L'essai de T.S Eliot a été traduit en Francais :   Kipling, Poèmes choisis par T.S Eliot, Amalthée, traduit par J.Castier. Robert Laffont. 1949. La traduction n'étant pas dans le domaine public, il n'est pas possible de les faire connaitre.
